Give Back Alexandria

Give Back Alexandria logoWhat happens when you have more passion than capital to help Alexandria? That’s the challenge facing today’s young professionals, many of whom have joined together in ACT’s Give Back Alexandria. Members Scott and Sonia Price believe the group is true to its name. Says Scott, “It’s a great vehicle for giving back. You may not be able to give large sums of money, but collectively and combined with ACT matching funds, we see a big impact.” And the group’s fundraising is always … fun. Last year, its annual Blues and Bluegrass event attracted 200 young Alexandrians. For Scott, who makes a special effort to reach out to diverse segments of the community, the group is also “a great way to get so many different groups together with the common goal of helping the city.” And now, he says, given the current economic climate, “There couldn’t be a better time to get involved.”

Alexandria Board Leadership Exchange (ABLE)

Alexandria Board Leadership Exchange logo Effective leadership can be the single most important factor in the success of an organization. Recognizing the need to create a stronger and more empowered community through effective board and commission leadership, the ACT for Alexandria, in partnership with Leadership Alexandria and Volunteer Alexandria created the Alexandria Board Leadership Exchange (ABLE).

In addition to energizing, educating, and engaging community members, ABLE:

  • Provides fundamental knowledge about effective board leadership and access to training;
  • Supports a vibrant network of members for sharing and learning;
  • Fosters a dynamic environment for recruitment of volunteers for board service.

ABLE will host three forums each year featuring case studies, methods, and tools for adopting best practices of effective organizations.

Click here to learn about the June 8th ABLE Education Event - Conflict, Consensus & Effective Board Governance, Getting it Right - featuring Katherine Morrison - Morrison Nonprofit Transitions, Fran Becker - executive director of Carpenter's Shelter, and Lee Fifer, board member and past chair of Carpenter's Shelter.

Current board and commission members and individuals interested in joining boards or commissions are encouraged to attend!
