Give Back Alexandria

Give Back Alexandria logoWhat happens when you have more passion than capital to help Alexandria? That’s the challenge facing today’s young professionals, many of whom have joined together in ACT’s Give Back Alexandria. Members Scott and Sonia Price believe the group is true to its name. Says Scott, “It’s a great vehicle for giving back. You may not be able to give large sums of money, but collectively and combined with ACT matching funds, we see a big impact.” And the group’s fundraising is always … fun. Last year, its annual Blues and Bluegrass event attracted 200 young Alexandrians. For Scott, who makes a special effort to reach out to diverse segments of the community, the group is also “a great way to get so many different groups together with the common goal of helping the city.” And now, he says, given the current economic climate, “There couldn’t be a better time to get involved.”

Give Back Alexandria

Give Back Alexandria logoGive Back Alexandria (Give Back), an initiative of ACT, is a network of people who are focused on giving back to our City and community in ways that encourage social networking, activism, volunteerism, and philanthropy.  A key priority for Give Back is to educate and raise awareness about the current needs in Alexandria and empower the next generation of philanthropists and leaders around those issues.

Each year Give Back selects focus areas and selects nonprofit organization grantees to whom we provide financial and volunteer support.  Last year Give Back members raised over $15,000 to support our grantee partners.  This year Give Back is proud to support Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) of Northern Virginia and The Reading Connection.  Previous grantees include Community Lodgings and Friends of the Alexandria Mental Health Center.

June 3, 2010 – 3rd Annual Bubbles & Bluegrass @ Lord Fairfax House - Celebrate the beginning of summer with Give Back Alexandria’s 3nd Annual Bubbles & Bluegrass event. The attire is black tie & blue jeans or anything in between. Live music and Alexandria restaurants come together to provide an authentic southern barbeque menu.
